The Supreme Court has reserved its judgment in the appeal filed by Atiku Abubakar and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) contesting the verdict of the Presidential Election Petition Court, which upheld President Bola Tinubu's win in the presidential election.
The court has also reserved judgment in the appeal lodged by the Labour Party (LP) and the Allied Peoples Movement (APM).
A seven-member panel presided over by Justice Inyang Okoro made this announcement on Monday after lawyers representing the parties presented their case summaries and final arguments.
Additionally, the Supreme Court considered the arguments from both sides regarding Atiku's motion to introduce new evidence involving forged documents.
Atiku Abubakar's counsel, Mr. Chris Uche, requested the court to grant the motion, endorse their appeal, fulfill their requests, and disqualify Tinubu.
However, the respondents' counsels, Abubakar Mahmoud for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Wole Olanipekun for President Tinubu, and Akin Olujinmi for the All Progressives Congress (APC), urged the court to reject both the motion and the appeal, asserting their lack of merit.
Subsequently, when the court reconvened, it addressed the APM's appeal. The APM was encouraged to withdraw its appeal as it lacked specific prayers for resolution.
Counsel for the APM, Machukwu Umeh, proceeded to withdraw the appeal, and the respondents did not oppose this decision. Consequently, the Supreme Court dismissed the appeal.
