The Rivers State APC gubernatorial candidate, Tonye Cole, says if elected, he will fully digitalize the state's economy.

Cole, who was speaking during an interview on Nigeria Info's Hard Facts, said a digitalised economy which will create an alternative to oil, will do much more for the state.

The former executive director of Sahara Group said with a fully digitalised economy in Rivers State, people will not "need to know the direction to their local government chairman's house before you can eat. You don't need to know the governor or commissioner before you can set up your own business and survive."

He said that his administration will not only focus on the environmental impact of oil bunkering in the state but also create other means of livelihood for Rivers people in order to reduce reliance on oil.

Cole noted that his administration will focus on flood mitigation, rapid response to flood victims, and proper storage of farm products to cushion the economic impact of flooding in parts of the state.

As a response to the state's soot crisis, the APC governorship aspirant said his administration would 'painstakingly educate the people on the health impact of soot, and also provide an alternative source of income for people dependent on oil bunkering.'
