The All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential campaign council spokesperson, Festus Keyamo, has asked the traditional media, including radio and television, to respect the APC PCC's decision to prioritize other media.

Keyamo made the statement on Nigeria Info FM's Morning Crossfife program, when addressing the issue of Bola Tinubu, the APC presidential candidate, not granting a one-on-one interview to any national broadcast station before the election in 2023.

He said, "I do not have to go to the orthodox media to reach Nigerians. I can even reach more Nigerians (via social media)  today than even some radio stations.

"The orthodox media no longer controls the avenue in which I reach Nigerians. In as much as we respect you we want you to also respect our own choices" he added.

Interviewer, Sheriff Quadry, also brought to light a statement made by Tinubu, about the Nigerian media at Chatham House in December.

Tinubu said he had refused to grant interviews to the Nigerian media because, they want to "use him to make money."

Reacting, Keyamo said his candidate was not talking about the Nigerian traditional media as a whole but was referring to a particular private TV station.

"He was talking about a particular station that is a private station organizing a debate and we know  that private station has anchors that are card-carrying members of other political parties.

"They are card-carrying members of other political parties say they’re organizing a debate and will be neutral. Will you attend that kind of debate?"
