The increase in petrol price, followed by the growing conversion of petrol to gas-powered generators, has caused a surge in the price of gas carburetors in Kano.
A gas carburetor is equipment that allows a power generator to work as a hybrid machine, accepting cooking gas and petrol as fuel sources.
A small gas carburetor for generators was sold for N7,000 to N9,000 before 29 May, when President Bola Tinubu pronounced the petrol subsidy removal, while the big one cost N15,000 to N20,000.
Currently, the small gas carburetor sells for N13,000 to N18,000, while the big gas one goes for N25,000 to N30,000.
