Peter Agba, the talented midfielder for Slovenian champions NK Olimpija Ljubljana, has expressed his desire to wear the green and white jersey of Nigeria’s Super Eagles.
Known for his skill, vision, and tenacity in midfield, the 22-year-old Kano-born has captured the hearts of fans in Slovenia.
His exploits in the Eastern European country caught the attention of not just his club but national team coaches in Europe with promises of better facilities and first-team football.
Speaking to Wazobia FM Kano’s Football Republik (Football Republik is a sports branch of Wazobia FM presented in Pidgin English), Agba spoke candidly about his dream.
“Nigeria is my home, my heritage, and the place that shaped me,” he said.
“After another call from a European coach, I sat down with my elder brother, David Abga, a former Kano Pillars FC and El-Kanemi Warriors FC footballer himself, and told him about the offers on the table.
“But it has always been my dream to play for the Super Eagles. Watching players like Jayjay Okocha, Mikel Obi, and Victor Osimhen inspired me to work hard and believe in my ability to represent my country.”
Like the FC Zürich star Ifeanyi Mathew, Agba’s journey to professional football is one of resilience and determination. Born and raised in Kano, he began playing football in his boyhood club, Junior Easy FC, in Badawa community, situated in Nasarawa LGA.
After a few years, he joined a local academy, FC Falala, to pursue his dream.
Agba was part of the Golden Eaglets team that emerged champions of the WAFU U-17 tournament in Niger Republic after beating Ghana’s Black Starlets 3-1 on penalties to qualify for the CAF U-17 Africa Cup of Nations in Tanzania in 2019.
He was a member of the Golden Eaglets that finished fourth in the CAF U-17 Africa Cup of Nations after losing 1-2 against Angola in the semi-final.
Agba played in the 21-man squad for the Fifa Under-17 World Cup in Brazil in 2019. With six points, the Golden Eaglets topped Group B that had Ecuador, Australia, and Hungary, but lost 1-3 against the Netherlands in the Round of 16.
In August 2023, the defensive midfielder moved to NK Olimpija Ljubljana from Zagreb, where he plays with second-league side NK Dubrava.
His performances in the Slovenian PrvaLiga and his contribution to the team’s domestic success have earned him praise from fans and pundits.
His most memorable moment was marking his 50th appearance with his first goal of the Europa Conference League match on day three of seven against HJK Helsinki.

Despite his fine form in Europe, Agba remains deeply connected to Nigeria. “I still follow the Nigerian football closely. I watch the Super Eagles games and keep up with the Nigerian Professional Football League.
“It would be a privilege to bring my experience back to the national team and contribute to our success on the global stage,” he said.
Agba remains optimistic about a call-up to the Super Eagles. “I know the competition is fierce, and there are many talented players in Nigeria and abroad.
“But I am ready to work hard and prove myself. I believe my style of play, versatility, and passion can add value to the team.”
For now, Agba continues to shine for NK Olimpija Ljubljana, with one eye on the ultimate goal – representing Nigeria on the international stage.
“I want to make my family, my fans, and my country proud,” he concluded, his voice filled with determination. “The dream is alive, and I’m ready to give it everything I’ve got.”
The Olimpija midfielder, who has become an integral part of their squad, is also optimistic about winning the Slovenian League at the end of the season.
“We currently top the league with six points after 18 matches. If we continue like this, with the current squad, I am confident of winning the league at the end of the season.”
