The death toll from the explosion in Ibadan Oyo State has now risen to three with over 80 persons injured, authorities have revealed.
Commissioner of Information and Civic Orientation, Dotun Oyelade given an update said the state government has set up emergency situation hub to collate and coordinate information about management of all victims.
Meanwhile, President Bola Tinubu has expressed sadness over the devastating explosion in Ibadan.
President Tinubu has also directed relevant authorities to identify and sanction those behind the inexcusable and reckless behaviour.
A statement signed by Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale on Wednesday read in part:
“It is worrisome that the cause of the blast is being attributed to the activities of illegal miners.
“Those behind the inexcusable and reckless behaviour that has created the conditions for the sad incident to occur must be fished out and punished.”
Also, Lagos governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has sympathised with his Oyo State counterpart, Seyi Makinde and the Oyo State Government over Tuesday’s Ibadan explosion.
Governor Sanwo-Olu describes the sad incident as disheartening and unfortunate and wished the victims, peace, comfort and lots of love at this time of sorrow.
