Okorocha Remanded in EFCC Custody, a Week to APC Presidential Primary

Justice Inyang Ekwo of the Federal High Court, Abuja on Monday remanded a former Governor of Imo State, Rochas Okorocha in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The anti-graft agency had arraigned the former Governor on an alleged N2.9 billion money laundering charge.

Okorocha who is also the Senator representing Imo West Senatorial District pleaded not guilty to the charges when it was read to him.

Thereafter, Justice Ekwo  ordered the Senator’s remand and adjourned till Tuesday for the hearing of the bail applications by Okorocha and other accused.

Joined in the suit are a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and an ally to the former Governor, Anyim Chinenye; and five companies.

Sen. Okorocha, Chinenye and the companies were arraigned on 17 counts of money laundering.

Okorocha is aspiring to be Nigeria's President in 2023 and the primary where he would slug it out with other aspirants is slated for 6 June.
