The National Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE) has threatened to embark on an indefinite strike from Wednesday, August 17.

The union says it has several unresolved issues with the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN).

NUEE issued its threat on Tuesday after picketing the headquarters of the TCN in Abuja.

The union’s members accuse the federal government of failing to pay the entitlement of former staff of the defunct Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) in December 2019.

In a circular issued by the union’s General Secretary, Joe Ajaero, all members are directed to withdraw their services nationwide and ensure all activities of the TCN are crippled.

The TCN is the middle entity in Nigeria’s national power system.

It is responsible for transmitting power from generation companies (GenCos) to distribution companies (DisCos).

The TCN manages the national grid that has collapsed no fewer than six times in 2022.
