The National Agency for Food Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has intercepted an NNPC-labeled tank carrying unregistered vegetable oil in Kano State.
The 45,000-liter truck was illegally diverted for the distribution of the oil at Gidan Ruwa, in Nassarawa LGA and the oil was being discharged into hundreds of 25-liter jerry cans labeled Smart Pure and Sawaf Vegetable Oil.
The NAFDAC coordinator in Kano, Kasim Idrisa Ibrahim told journalists on Monday that the illegal warehouse where the oil was being discharged has been sealed and the tanker with registration number MKA 749 ZF tolled to the agency's office.
The suspect in charge of the offloading oil, Adda’u Abdussamd, confessed that the product was imported from southern Nigeria by Kano-based businessmen he identified as Tahir and Surajo Ibrahim.
He said the duo has been using the same vehicle to transport vegetable oil for over two years.
