The Independent National Electoral Commission says it has recorded an increase in the collection of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) since its devolution to the ward level on Friday.
The commission’s Head of Voter Education and Publicity in Lagos State, Adenike Tadese said this on Monday on Nigeria info’s “The Newsroom”.
An average of 40,000 cards are being collected daily in the state, according to her.
Tadese disclosed that over six million PVCs have been collected in Lagos as of Sunday, 8 January.
She assured Nigerians that officials are working round the clock to ensure everyone gets their cards.
She identified multiple registration and omission as two of the issues hindering some people from getting their cards.
“Two things: it’s either you have engaged in multiple registration and your card is part of the old one or there is an omission which we have escalated to the national headquarters, and your card will be printed,” she said.
She assured Lagos residents that nobody will be disenfranchised and that INEC was working to ensure that all complaints are attended to.
Prospective voters were picking up their PVCs from INEC’s 774 local government offices across Nigeria until Friday 6 January when the commission moved the collection to wards.
The ward collection will last until Sunday 15 January when the exercise will revert to local government offices for the final week of collection.
