Unions in the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) have suspended their strike following the intervention of the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo.
The strike, sparked by grievances over poor working conditions, salary disparities, and unimplemented wage adjustments, will now be on hold until 13 May, pending further action from the government.
During the negotiation meeting in Abuja on Thursday, union leaders, Comrade Aba Ocheme of NUATE and Comrade Alale Adedayo of ANAP, said the decision was made following the minister’s assurance of swift action.
While expressing empathy for the striking unions, the aviation minister Keyamo pledged to personally engage President Bola Tinubu and the finance minister for immediate payment of outstanding minimum wage areas.
A committee will be set up to address the workers’ demands.
