Nigeria's Kunle Adeyanju who rode on a power bike from London to Lagos has taken his pro-polio vaccination campaign to Kano State.

The biker, popularly called Lionheart, had embarked on the historical journey from London on 19 April and arrived in Nigeria on 29 May.

Since his homecoming, Mr. Adeyanju had taken his polio campaign across different states in the country alongside the Rotary Club and a bikers association.

On his arrival in Kano Wednesday, he was hosted by the state Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje at the Africa House where he appealed for the continuation of the immunization drive that earned Nigeria its polio-free status.

Mr. Adeyanju drew the Kano state government's attention to countries like Malawi, Cote d'Ivoire, and Togo that still experience polio despite being declared polio-free.

He warned that Nigeria remains at risk as long as the polio virus still exists in other parts of the world.

Mr. Adeyanju, the President of the Rotary Club in Ikoyi, Lagos, appealed to the state government for more funding to tackle polio.

He also assured the government of the Rotary Club's support in the fight against the virus.

“Polio was coming back because when we got that polio certification that we are free, everybody relaxed."

While commending the Kano State Government for its role in the fight against polio, Mr. Adeyanju noted that "the only way for us to prevent this virus from resurging in our communities is to do that which got us certified, which is immunization."

Responding on behalf of the Kano State Governor, the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Usman Alhaji, assured of their commitment to sensitizing residents against the polio virus.

"Kano State in the last seven years had seen to it that the virus is eradicated in the state through the mobilization of all sectors of the society including the traditional institution, religious leaders, and Ullamas," Alhaji Usman said.
