Ibadan Explosion: Death Toll Rises to Five

The death toll from the explosion which rocked the Bodija area of Ibadan on Tuesday evening has risen to five.

The head of the Emergency Operations Centre for the evacuation and rescue of the victims disclosed this on Thursday.

Professor Temitope Alonge said two corpses were recovered from the rubble between Wednesday night and Thursday morning, in addition to the three recovered between Tuesday night and Wednesday.

The blast destroyed about 60 buildings and left more than 70 people injured.

Governor Seyi Makinde said it was caused by explosives stored by illegal miners in the residential area.

He has asked all the people who live within a 250-meter radius of the blast scene to move to alternative accommodation provided by the state until structural integrity tests are completed on their buildings.
