Nigeria coach Jose Peseiro has disclosed that he doesn't want his team to concede a goal when they file out against Cameroon in the AFCON 2023 Round-16 match on Saturday night.
Nigeria scored three goals and conceded one in their three group games, the only goal into the Super Eagles' net coming against Equatorial Guinea, who ended as group winners on goal difference.
Going into the knockout against five-time champions Cameroon, Jose Peseiro says he aims to score at least one goal without conceding.
"You want to stay one team, play together, can play with the best striker or the best strikers, but play the offensive process like a team and play the fuzzy process like a team,” he said at a press conference on Friday.
"You need to decide in specific situations. For that, I choose in the first moment, to keep our wall without goals.
“You don't want to concede goals. At the same time, you want to play an offensive game. You want to enjoy the game.
“It allows us to create enough opportunity for more goals. Like I answered the first question, I don't want to set goals tomorrow.
“I want to score one, at least. If you do it, you'll beat Cameroon.”
The winner of Saturday’s match between Nigeria and Cameroon will play in the quarterfinals against the winner of the game between Angola and Namibia.
