A man has been killed in a fuel tanker explosion along the Lagos-Abeokuta expressway.
Eyewitnesses said the fire began at about 2 am Friday after the 45,000-litre tanker lost control and spilled its contents on the road, at Ajegunle bus stop.
The coordinator of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Ibrahim Farinloye added that the fire was ignited after some persons began scooping petrol.
Makeshift shops and vehicles around the area were burnt before the inferno was put out by the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, using a chemical foam compound.
Emergency services were mopping up the spilled petrol and evacuating the remains of the fire at the time of putting out this report.
