Long queues have emerged at fuel stations in the Federal Capital Territory, pointing to the scarcity of petrol.
On Wednesday, the queues were evident at all NNPC stations, including the one at the NNPC Towers. Vehicles also lined up at franchise fuel stations of major petrol marketers in Abuja city center.
It was no different in the suburbs and the long road leading to the Abuja airport.
NNPC retail outlets maintained their pump price of N617 per liter while independent marketers sold for between N680 to N700.
Black marketers, however, sold a liter for at least N1,000.
Despite the queues, an official of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), who spoke anonymously to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) said there was no petrol scarcityin the FCT.
He stated that only fuel stations that sold fuel at prices lower than what independent marketers were selling had long lines.
The president of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) confirmed the NMDPRA official’s claim.
