The Federal Executive Council has approved a contract for the security of rail infrastructure in Abuja.
Announcing this after Wednesday’s Cabinet meeting, the FCT Minister, Mohammed Bello said the project will cover the light-rail-mass-transit facility.
The contract was awarded to Messers Halali Security Guards Limited and Messers Seaguard Security and Protective Company Limited, to secure the entire 45 kilometres of track including 12 stations.
Mr. Bello said the contracts will cost N718 million.
“These security services are meant to protect the key infrastructure on the rail tracks – the signaling and communication equipment as well as the electrical system.
“Al-Ahali Security Guards Limited is going to secure 27.4 kilometres of the track covering eight stations at the cost of N407,214,000 over a two-year period while Seaguard Security and Protective Company Limited is going to secure 18 kilometres of the rail tracks including four railway stations and that is at the cost of N310,979,250,” he said.
FEC Approves Road Projects in Five North East States
The FEC also approved four memos for various road projects in five states of the North East region, presented on behalf of the North East Development Commission.
The states are Borno, Yobe, Adamawa, Gombe and Bauchi. In Borno, a 22.5-kilometre road will be reconstructed.
The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Sadiya Umar said the roads were selected by the benefiting state governments and are meant to enhance security.
“These roads are expected to stimulate economic activities, enhance security and facilitate the freer movement of goods and people in these affected states,” she said.
FEC Approves Road Project in Lagos
The FEC approved the reconstruction of the Mushin-NNPC-Apapa-Oshodi road in Lagos to Strabic Construction Company.
The project will cost over N11 billion and has a completion period of 20 months.
The Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, said Council equally approved the report and recommendation of a committee set up by the president to review demands by state governments for refunds on interventions made on federal roads before 2015.
As a result, Kebbi State will receive over N6.8 billion and Taraba State will get N2.470 billion naira as a part of domestic debt repayments.
