The Federal High Court sitting in Port Hardcourt, the Rivers State capital, has nullified the candidacy of Tonye Cole, the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.

In his ruling on Thursday, Justice Obile, ruled that the APC did not comply with the Electoral Act that brought in Cole as the candidate of the party.

The PDP had petitioned the court to disqualify Tonye Cole on the grounds that the delegate election that brought him did not follow due process having not been monitored by INEC.

Justice Obile also ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to drop Tonye Cole from the list of candidates eligible to run for governor in 2023.
