The Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Mangu Local Government, Rev. Timothy Daluk, has accused the military of supervising the killing of Christians in the area.
In a video that went viral on Wednesday, Rev. Daluk claimed that the military supported this week’s killings and was involved in the destruction of properties.
“I am here to report the situation happening in Mangu Local Government for the whole world to understand.
“What is happening in Mangu at this particular point in time, the military are the ones sending our people away for the militia to burn their houses,” he said.
According to Daluk, the military sent Christians away from the new market, leaving Muslims in the area to burn their homes.
He further said a military-imposed curfew restricted movement only within the Christian community, while allowing movement in Muslim-dominated areas.
Expressing his frustration, Daluk accused the military of killing three young men.
He narrated an incident where he reported a killing to the security forces and the reports were initially dismissed as lies.
He also called for the withdrawal of troops and expressed his intention to organize Christians for self-defense against the violence in Mangu.
The CAN chairman's plea comes in the wake of a recent attack in Kwahaslalek village, where armed men killed at least 30 victims.
In response to Daluk's allegations, the Defence Headquarters has stated its intention to meet with the CAN chairman to substantiate the claims.
The Director of Defence Media Operations, Maj. Gen. Edward Buba, emphasized the need for clarity and professionalism, promising a thorough investigation into the matter.
