Morning Crossfire callers, on Friday, had contrasting reactions to the Senate’s decision to reject the Gender and Equal Opportunity Bill.
The bill, according to its sponsor, Biodun Olujimi (PDP, Ekiti South), looks to implement Section 42 of the constitution that provides for the elimination of discrimination against women.
Some male lawmakers who argued that the Nigerian Constitution was clear on the rights of citizens, including women, rejected the bill.
Several Morning Crossfire callers shared this view.
One of them, Comrade Ogbanabo, argued it is illusion to think men and women should have equal opportunities because “women are not equal to men.”
