The demolition of structures built on waterways in Onitsha, Anambra State continued Wednesday in the Fegge and Woliwo areas of the city.
The exercise was carried out by the members of the Anambra Taskforce on the Demolition of Illegal Buildings with protection from security agencies.
Traders and residents of a fruit market known as Ogbo-pineapples in Woliwo were hardest hit.
One of the affected traders, Chibueze Jonathan said he was pained that his means of livelihood had been affected.
He was, however, supportive of the demolition if it would lead to redevelopment of the area.
Another trader, Christian Igwe, disclosed that his losses to the demolition run into several millions of naira.
He said the government should have given enough time for the traders to move to a new location.
But just like Mr. Jonathan, he acknowledged that the waterways needed to be cleared, to halt damage-causing flooding of the area.
