The Ivorian government has declared a public holiday for students as the country plays Nigeria in their second match of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Schools have passed this information to parents, as seen by a notice issued by the International English School, Abidjan, while public workers would work half-day.

The Elephants of Côte d'Ivoire clash with the Eagles in a crucial match on Thursday.

A win for the host would see them qualify for the knockout stage of the tournament while the Eagles require a win to keep hopes of going further in the competition alive.

The Elephants defeated Guinea Bissau 2-0 in the AFCON opening match last Saturday, while the Eagles were held to a 1-1 draw by Equatorial Guinea.

Nigeria and Côte d’Ivoire have met six times in the AFCON, with two wins for each country and two draws.

The Thursday match is slated for 6 pm Nigerian time.
