Former governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi, has given conditions before he would join the 2023 presidential race.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Vice Presidential candidate in the 2019 elections says he would join the race if his party “zones the ticket to the South.”

Many Nigerians, especially on social media, have called on Obi to join the race to become Nigeria’s president in 2023 as he is seen as one of the most prudent and competent politicians in recent times.

And writing on his Twitter page, the former Anambra governor admitted his willingness to run for the post.

“Yes, I will step into the field to contest for the opportunity to serve this great country as President,” Obi said.

However, the former governor says if the PDP contest is “thrown open, Nigerians will hear from me.”

So far, mostly Northern candidates have indicated interest in contesting the presidential election.

Sokoto State governor, Aminu Tambuwal on Monday indicated interest in the race while former Senate President, Bukola Saraki, declared his interest for the exalted seat last week.

But, media mogul, Dele Momodu, a Southerner, has announced his intention to contest the presidency under the opposition party.

Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, is also rumoured to be interested with posters of him and Rivers State governor, Nyesom Wike, flooding social media on Monday.
