President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has met with governors of states that share boundaries with Niger Republic.

The governors of Sokoto, Kebbi, Yobe, Katsina, and Jigawa were at the Presidential Villa on Sunday evening for the meeting

The presidency is yet to disclose what was discussed but Nigeria Info believes talks centered on the implications of President Tinubu’s planned military intervention in Niger.

The president is believed to have been consulting with various groups since the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) gave the military junta in Niger a seven-day ultimatum to reinstate ousted President Mohamed Bazoum or risk military intervention.

Tinubu’s meeting with Governors Ahmed Aliyu, Idris Nasir, Mai Malam Buni, Dikko Radda, and Umar Namadi coincided with the ECOWAS deadline.

It also comes amidst opposition to a military solution to the Niger coup.

The Northern Senators Forum (NSF) had asked Tinubu to exhaust all diplomatic means in resolving the leadership crisis.

The forum warned that deploying Nigerian troops to the Niger Republic will hurt seven northern states that share borders with the country.
