Police Confirm Abduction of Nasarawa State Commissioner

The Police Command in Nasarawa State has confirmed the abduction of the Nasarawa State Commissioner for Information, Culture, and Tourism, Yakubu Lawal.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Ramhan Nansel, confirmed this in a statement made available on Tuesday in Lafia, the state capital.

“On Monday, August 15 at about 8:45 pm, the attention of policemen on routine patrol was drawn to the sound of sporadic gunshots in the Nassarawa-Eggon Local Government Area of the state,” the statement read.

The PPRO said a combined detachment of the Police Mobile Force, the Anti kidnapping unit, Military personnel, Vigilante, and local hunters were dispatched to the scene where they discovered that gunmen invaded the residence of the commissioner and abducted him.

He disclosed that a rescue operation was ongoing and provided phone numbers for persons with useful information to call.
