The world's richest man, Elon Musk has now officially taken over Twitter.

His $44 billion deal to acquire the bird closed on Thursday and he tweeted “The Bird is free.”

In keeping to Musk's pledge to clean up the social network, Twitter CEO, Parag Agrawal; its Chief Financial Officer, Ned Segal; and the Head of Legal Policy, Trust and Safety, Vijaya Gadde have been relieved of their jobs.

Vijaya Gadde was the woman who made the call to suspend Donald Trump permanently.

Earlier this week, Musk shared a video of himself walking into the headquarters of Twitter.

In another tweet, the billionaire explained the reason for his acquisition of the bird app.

He said he didn’t buy Twitter to “make more money” but to “try to help humanity.”

According to him, “it is important to the future of civilization to have a common digital town square, where a wide range of beliefs can be debated on a healthy manner without resorting to violence”.

He also noted that “in the relentless pursuit of clicks” the opportunity for dialogue has been lost as “most traditional media has fueled and catered to those polarized extremes as they believe that is what brings in the money.”

He however noted that Twitter cannot become a “free-for-all hellscape where anything can be said with no consequences” but assured that the app will adhere to the laws of the land and be “warm and welcoming to all.”
