A young and talented female medical doctor, Vwaere Diaso, has lost her life in an elevator accident at the General Hospital in Odan, Lagos State.

The incident occurred on Tuesday, August 1, two weeks away from the completion of her housemanship.

Dr. Diaso, a graduate of Babcock University, was on her way to get her food from a dispatch rider when the malfunctioning elevator she was in collapsed from the 10th floor to the bottom floor.

Colleagues and friends of the late doctor recounted that the elevator had been faulty for an extended period, with numerous complaints lodged with the hospital's Management regarding its dysfunction.

The malfunctioning elevator wasn't fixed despite the repeated concerns spanning months from staff members.

Dr. Diaso's tragic death has ignited an outpouring of grief, frustration, and anger from her friends, colleagues, and the broader medical community.

Many individuals have taken to social media platforms to give their condolences and vent their frustration over the negligence of the hospital management.

"This is a real-life consequence of having people award contracts based on nepotism and skim off budgets. Corruption kills," commented one of Dr. Diaso's colleagues on Twitter, highlighting the potential dangers of overlooking maintenance and safety concerns.

Dr. Diaso's death has also sparked discussions on social media about the need for accountability and the responsible management of infrastructure.
