No fewer than 30 people have lost their lives following an attack in the Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The violence reportedly started on Monday when two Mangu locals were attacked by persons believed to be Fulanis close to a military checkpoint.
The Mangu natives accused the military of doing nothing and decided to attack a Fulani village.
This resulted in retaliatory actions with both communities resorting to violence.
A 24-hour curfew imposed to quell the violence did little to prevent further clashes on Wednesday.
Soldiers were deployed to Mangu, but their intervention was limited to main roads, leaving suburban areas vulnerable to continued violence.
About 100 buildings were destroyed, including homes, churches, and mosques.
