A Chief Magistrates’ court in Sabo-Yaba, Lagos has granted an application for an extension of remand of Seun Kuti, the Afrobeat singer, for an additional four days.

The directive by the Chief Magistrate, Mrs Adeola Olatubosun, on Tuesday, follows an application by the police for an order to further keep him in custody for 21 days pending its investigation.

Olatubosun also adjourned the case until May 22 for mention and directed the prosecutor to duplicate the case file and forward a copy to the state director of public prosecutions for advice.

Seun was arrested on Monday; detained and arraigned after being filmed assaulting a police officer on the Third Mainland Bridge.

The police recently conducted a search at Seun’s home, of which Lagos State police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, revealed that the agency “stumbled on certain suspicious things that warranted the search”.

The singer is charged with assaulting a police officer.
