Chelsea has officially announced the appointment of Mauricio Pochettino as the next manager following a downward spell under Graham Potter and Frank Lampard.

The ex-Tottenham boss is set to resume work on July 1 in Stamford Bridge after the club finished 12th place in the just concluded Premier League season.

Pochettino is the third managerial appointment co-controlling owner Todd Boehly made following the club's takeover last year.

Despite the club's Champions League exit at the hands of Real Madrid in April, club legend Frank Lampard was appointed as caretaker manager until the end of the season.

Chelsea considered a number of candidates for the managerial position, including former Bayern Munich manager Julian Nagelsmann.

However, the 35-year-old pulled out of the race with Pochettino and Burnley boss Vincent Kompany emerging as frontrunners for the job.
