The presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) says he will ensure fewer powers for the federal government and more for the states and local governments if he wins the 2023 Presidential Election.

Atiku Abubakar was speaking at the 62nd edition of the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA) Conference in Lagos on Monday.

He told the lawyers and other participants that he has a draft constitutional provision for this and is ready to start work on his first day in office.

“As far as I am concerned, the federal government is too big. The federal government has no business doing some of the things they’re doing.

“I already have a constitutional provision draft to amend the constitution to give more powers and resources to the states and the local governments,” he said.

The former Vice President said the level of disunity in Nigeria is unprecedented and pledged to give every region of the country a sense of belonging if elected as the president.

“The unity of our country is very very fundamental. And how do we ensure the unity of our country? It’s by making sure we give every part of this country a sense of belonging.”
