Kano State Governor Spends N208 Million To Empower 5,200 Tea Sellers

Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, said his administration has spent N208 million in empowerment of 5,200 Masu Shayi (tea sellers) in the state. This was announced on Saturday during an empowerment programme at the Government House, Kano.

Ganduje said the beneficiaries were selected from 484 wards in the 44 local government areas of the state. Also, each of the beneficiaries would also receive N40,000 cash as take-off capital.

The governor described the distribution of the materials as a significant milestone and the first of its kind in the history of Kano, adding that it would also boost the economic potential of the tea sellers and their families.

The products distributed include cartons of noodles, cocoa beverage, liquid and powdered milk, tea, crates of eggs, nylon and cups, baskets, brown and white sugar, spaghetti and bread.

“Our government attaches so much importance to empowerment programme because, at the end, the beneficiaries will be self-reliant, thereby improving the economic capacity of the state,” he said.

He urged them to take hygiene seriously while rendering their services by constantly washing their hands, as well as wearing hand gloves.
