Anthony Joshua Beats Carlos Takam Amids Controversial Tenth Round Stoppage

Anthony Joshua retains his IBF and WBA heavyweight titles following the stoppage of his fight against Carlos Takam in the tenth round. Although the stoppage has been described as ill-timed by many observers present at the Principality Stadium saying the referee acted prematurely.

At the end of the match, Joshua addressed the 80,000 crowd, saying “What do you want, UK fans? Wembley, Cardiff? Las Vegas? I just want to keep the sport growing,” with the entire stadium roaring to his every word.

“I have no interest in what’s going on with the officials. I just worry about my opponent. Unfortunately, the ref stopped it. I think people wanted to see Takam unconscious on the floor, am I right?

He was getting there. I didn’t have control over the ref’s decision. Respect to Takam. He was like Evander Holyfield, ducking down, popping up. We get the win and now we look forward to 2018”.

Meanwhile, Takam did not hide his displeasure over the stoppage of the match either, “I don’t know why the referee stopped the match,” he said. “I respect the champion and the UK fans, they are great fans and I am happy to box here. I don’t why they stopped it.

“I want a rematch, I make my preparations with 12 days to fight Anthony. I want a rematch, I want to box him again, I want him, he is a great champion.
