The Commissioner for Public Affairs and Civic Education for the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC), Tamunotonye Profit Tobins, has addressed recent reports of a new court order that allegedly restricts the police from ensuring security for the commission during the October 5 local government election.

In an interview on Nigeria Info’s Morning Crossfire, Mr Tobins stated that the commission has not received any notification of such an order from the Federal High Court in Abuja, attributing the claims to social media rumours. His comments come in response to claims that the Rivers State Police Command has barricaded the commission's premises based on this purported order.

Mr Tobins denied these allegations, stating that the RSIEC is only aware of a September 6 ruling from the Rivers State High Court. This ruling, he said, allows the commission to proceed with the elections and mandates the police to provide security for the election and all stakeholders involved.
