A mother’s sacrifice many years ago is making it possible for children in slum communities to play chess.

Tunde Onakoya is teaching children in slums how to play chess, but this would never have been possible if his mother did not work as a cleaner for six years so he could go to school.

The 27-year-old convener of the Chess to Slum initiative told Joyce Onyemuwa on the Sunny Side that playing chess as a kid changed his life and he believes teaching children to play chess helps them make better decisions.

The host of the Sunny Side couldn’t hold back her tears as Tunde shared his story.
