Miracles: Faith, Mercy, or Magic?

You are viewing content from Nigeria Info, Let's Talk! Abuja. Would you like to make this your preferred location?

What are miracles and who qualifies for divine intervention?

These were the questions asked on Nigeria Info’s Sunny Side during a conversation on the nature of miracles and the varying interpretations across religious and non-religious viewpoints in Nigeria.

Blessing, the first caller, argued that miracles are available to everyone, regardless of religious affiliation. She pointed to God's love for all people, including sinners, as evidence that miracles are not limited to believers:

“Even Jesus Christ that came to die for us, He died for sinners, not for believers. So, I believe that miracle is not just meant for believers or Christians, it's meant for everyone,” she said.

Sam, another caller, took a similar stance, emphasising God's mercy as the driving force behind miracles:

“Miracle is the demonstration of God's mercies, and God's mercy is available to everyone, in spite of your religious affiliation,” he said.

Ken, on the contrary, challenged the very concept of miracles. He pointed to the story of Jesus feeding the multitude with a few loaves of bread as an example, suggesting it could be interpreted as magic from a non-religious perspective.

“That is what you call magic, in the eyes of the Christian, they call it miracle,” he said.
