Radio host, Jimi Disu, has criticized the idea behind the planned establishment of the National Electoral Offences Commission.
The National Assembly has started plans to establish this commission solely for the investigation and prosecution of electoral crimes
Disu, however, argues that there are laws that address that and that there is no need for a special commission.
Speaking to Sheriff Quadry on Morning Crossfire, he said at most a department within the Nigerian Police could be formed to handle the proposed commission's work.
Setting up a new agency will cause corruption to thrive and is a total waste of the country's funds, the Daily Digest host added.
Different views have been expressed regarding the planned creation of the National Electoral Offences Commission by both CSOs and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.
According to the EFCC, the police, EFCC and other law enforcement agencies are already empowered by existing laws to investigate and prosecute electoral crimes.
Meanwhile, other stakeholders and civil society organisations spoke in favour of the bill.
