This is according to Chief Consultant Psychiatrist at the Federal NeuroPsychiatric Hospital, Aro, Abeokuta, Dr. Kike Oyekanmi.

Dr. Oyekanmi who was speaking on Nigeria Info's Hard Facts, revealed that "the fact that you don't have a diagnosable condition does not mean that you are okay."

"The fact that you are dressing very well and speaking very well doesn't mean you are okay," she added.

She noted that conceived misconceptions about mental health have led many to dismiss or ignore early symptoms of mental illness.

"Some people who are mentally ill don't even know it is mental illness. For some that know it is mental illness, they don't want to come for treatment because to them it means that they are mad."

She noted that early signs of mental illness include "common things that people might just dismiss as something else such as; changes in sleep pattern, changes in appetite, changes in your mood, lack of productivity, forgetfulness, mood abnormalities, headaches etc.
