Following the conclusion of the mid-term elections in the United States of America, the country now hopes for credible elections in Africa's most populous nation come 2023.

This disclosure was made by the US Lagos Consulate Public Affairs Officer, Joe Kruzich.

In conversation with Mary-Ann Duke Okon and Stretch on Whaats Up Lagos about the mid-term elections, Joe equally noted that the US holds itself to the same values it is requesting of Nigeria.

"One of the key things we are looking for is that we hope that the elections would be free, transparent, and fair for all the parties; and that they (all the parties) refrain from engaging in any kind of escalated rhetorics or violence.

"And that all the parties after the election are done in a free and fair way will accept the results of the elections.

"Those are three very important points that are core to our approach to any country that has democratic elections. We hold ourselves up to the very same standard."

Further alluding to the fallouts from the US 2020 elections, the Public Affairs Officer also explained that the outcome of the mid-term elections would not "impact American engagement with Nigeria or with the continent."

According to him, that would be underlined when the US-Africa Presidential Leaders Summit holds in Washington DC from December 13th to 15th.
