15-year-old Tanvita Koushik defeated 17-year-old Chiagozie Isidore in the first group stage matchup of the 'I Beg To Differ' Tournament of Champions.

The debate saw both contestants debate the topic: "Debates should be mandatory for candidates in elections."

Tanvita Koushik who supported the argument noted that mandatory debates in elections will enable the electorates gauge the emotional intelligence of candidates for each political position.

According to her, mandatory debates will create a level playing field for candidates regardless of their financial strength.

'Debates will give voters clarity as they watch their candidates answer questions in real-time,' she added.

On his part, Chiagozie Isidore argued that debates only show candidates as being vocal and not hands-on in getting the job done.

In his view, the electorates already know who their preferred candidate is before any debate.

'Nigeria does not need a leader that talks too much and does nothing,' he says.

The group stages continue on Tuesday at 4pm with former semifinalist, Ramadan Olalekan Oladipupo taking on champion Ruth Okorocha in group B.
