A Shari’a Court sitting at Rigasa, Kaduna, ordered the remand of an unnamed female spectator whose phone rang during court proceedings on Tuesday.

The judge, Malam Muhammad Adamu, said she would be charged with obstructing court proceedings.

The spectator resisted submitting her phone to the court when asked to do so.

She said it was her first time in court as an observer, pleading with the judge to let her go with her phone.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that a sign to switch off phones was on the wall outside and inside the court.

A court clerk also announced that phones be switched off or be put on silence before the court proceedings began.
