The Senate is considering a six-month suspension for Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.

This recommendation is contained in a report from the Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Code of Conduct, which found her in violation of Senate Standing Rules.

Presenting the report at Thursday's plenary, the chairman of the committee, Senator Neda Imasuen, recommended that the suspension begin immediately (6 March).

The committee also recommended that during this period, Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan’s office will be locked, and she be banned from accessing National Assembly premises.

In addition to the office closure, the recommendations also call for the withdrawal of her salary, as well as the salaries of her legislative aides.

The senator will also be prohibited from representing Nigeria in any official capacity during the suspension.

The committee further suggested that Akpoti-Uduaghan be required to submit a written apology to the Senate to have her suspension reviewed.
