Stranded residents in Kano resorted to walking long distances to and from their destinations Thursday night as the state government began full enforcement of the 10 pm ban on rickshaw (keke) operations.

The state government had after a security meeting on Monday, banned the operations of kekes beyond 10 pm, effective from Thursday night.

There was total compliance as the police and officers of the Kano Road Traffic Agency (KAROTA) mounted roadblocks along major roads.

No yellow-colored machines with three tires were sighted along Audu Bako Way, Yankura by France Road, Sarkin Yaki by Court Road, Zungeru by Boma Road, and Hospital Road by 9:50 pm.

Residents coming from work trekked long distances, carrying their goods on their heads while others who were going for night duties appealed for a rethink of the ban.

A couple who was stranded at Abdullahi Wase Hospital after their treatment wondered how they were going to walk to their house in Mariri, a 26-minute drive or nearly two hours when one decides to walk.
