The Kaduna State governor, Uba Sani, has imposed a 24-hour curfew on the capital city, Kaduna, and Zaria city.
The lockdown will also affect neighboring communities.
The decision was taken after a security review by the Kaduna State Security Council on Monday.
The review showed that the ongoing hunger protest in the state has been hijacked by “criminals, causing looting and property destruction.”
In a statement released by the government, the Internal Security and Home Affairs Commissioner, Samuel Aruwan, advised citizens to stay indoors while security forces work to ensure safety.
He stated that the curfew would be examined as needed.
