Property owners in the highbrow areas of Asokoro, Industrial Area II, and Maitama Districts are the highest debtors in the N29 billion owed to the FCT Administration (FCTA).

The Coordinating Committee on the Recovery of Outstanding Ground Rents disclosed on Thursday that real estate owners in these places owe 10.67% and 9.29% of the total sum.

The Chairman, Media & Publicity Sub-Committee, Muhammad Sule said the committee is already fine-tuning legal documentation to take all property owners who have failed to pay, despite repeated warnings, to court for prosecution, revocation, or outright forfeiture of the properties.

Property owners in other districts like Central Business Districts, Industrial Area I and Extension, as well as Wuse I and II, owe 8.21%, 5.18%, 5.1%, and 4.81% respectively.

Title holders in Garki I & II, Katampe, and Jabi Districts are in default of 3.4%, 3%, 2.21%, and 2.15%.

Property owners in other districts like Kukwaba, Gwarinpa I, Gudu, Kado, Karmo, Katampe Extention, Utako, Mabushi, Durumi, Daki-Biyu, Guzape, Jahi, Dutse Wuye, and Institutions and Research are also indebted to the FCTA.

Mr. Sule urged debtors to clear their outstanding debts to enable the government to use the funds to fast-track the infrastructural development of the Federal Capital Territory.

The FCT Permanent Secretary, Adesola Olusade recently inaugurated a debt recovery committee with the mandate to recover the outstanding debts owed to the FCT Administration.
