Senator Ned Nwoko (PDP-Delta North), has criticized the recent sacking of 317 Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) workers, urging the Senate to investigate the purge.

Nwoko stated in Abuja on Tuesday that the dismissal was "too hasty," which is why more investigation into the circumstances surrounding it is necessary.

“Between March 15 and April 11, 2024, the CBN sacked 117 staff members,” he told his colleagues.

“On May 24, the CBN sacked an additional 200 staff members, bringing the total number to 317."

He said the apex bank did not confer with labor unions and other parties before the dismissals.

Nwoko voiced concerns that the exercise might have undermined the values of justice and fairness.

He asked the Senate to mandate its committees on employment, labor, productivity, and public service matters to investigate the terminations.
