The Ebonyi State wing of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) has directed its members in seven local government areas where months of salary areas are owed to embark on an indefinite strike.

According to a statement signed by Bassey Asuquo, the secretary of the union in the state, the strike commenced at noon on Thursday.

The affected local governments are Edda, Ebonyi, Ezza South, Ezza North, Ishielu, Ivo, and Ohaukwu.

The chairmen of the areas are accused of owing teachers four months salaries covering October to January.

Mr. Asuquo clarified that negotiations with the local government leaders have been fruitless.
