The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has insisted it bought petrol from the Dangote refinery at N898 per liter on Sunday.

The company's chief corporate communications officer, Olufemi Soneye, maintained the company's position after Dangote denied the NNPCL’s first statement.

Dangote urged Nigerians to disregard the NNPCL's "malicious statement" and await its pricing announcement by the government's technical sub-committee on Naira-based crude sales to local refineries.

But, in a new statement released Monday, the NNPCL spokesman insisted the company bought petrol from the Dangote refinery at N898 a liter.

Soneye said market forces now determine domestic pump prices. He also attached estimated pump prices based on the petrol from Dangote Refinery.

The minimum price is N950.22 for Lagos, and the maximum is N1.019.22 for Borno State.

The NNPCL confirmed it is paying Dangote Refinery in dollars for the September petrol offtake, as naira transactions will commence on 1 October.
