Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu of a Federal High Court, Abuja has sentenced the Director General of the Peter Obi Presidential Campaign Council, Doyin Okupe to two years imprisonment for money laundering.
The trial judge, Justice Ojukwu delivering her judgement on Monday, found Okupe guilty of 26 out of a 59-count charge preferred against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
The EFCC had in 2019 arraigned Okupe on a 59-count charge bordering on alleged money laundering and diversion of funds to the of N702 million.
The judge sentenced the former Presidential Spokesman to two years in prison on each count.
The sentence will however run concurrently.
The judge also said the convict is at liberty to pay a N500,000 fine on each count totalling N13 million.

The Director General of the Peter Obi Presidential Campaign Council, Doyin Okupe has paid the sum of N13 million for the 2-year jail term bagged for a N240 million money laundering offence.
Recall that Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu of a Federal High Court, Abuja had on Monday convicted and sentenced Okupe to 2 years imprisonment after founding him guilty of 26 out of a 59-count charge preferred against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Justice Ojukwu, however, ruled that the 26 counts, which attracted a 2-year jail term each, would run concurrently, meaning, the convict would only spend two years in prison.
She also gave an option of N500,000 in each count, amounting to N13 million, which must be paid before 4:30 pm (the close of work) on Monday. The trial judge ordered that if Okupe failed to meet the option of a fine within the time frame, he should be taken to Kuje Correctional Centre to serve his prison term.
However, a check at the court at about 6 pm showed that the former Presidential Spokesman had paid the money.
