The Kano State Police Command says 11-year-old Sunusi Adamu and 13-year-old Umar Gambo died from burns sustained following the gas explosion that rocked Sheka quarters, in Karshen Kwalta, Kano on Thursday.
Authorities say the explosion was triggered by a man frying fish close to a gas retail outlet.
It affected three other buildings nearby, with victims rushed to Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital.
The police spokesperson, Haruna Kiyawa confirmed that 19 males comprising three adults and 16 children sustained various degrees of injuries.
He also said investigations have commenced into the incident, and that the police have started an awareness campaign to forestall a future occurrence.
Meanwhile, Atiku Maniru, an elder brother to the late Sanusi Adamu (11 years) is calling on the Kano State government to restrict gas retailers from doing business in residential areas.
He said he heard someone had died from a fire outbreak and only discovered it was his brother when he and a group of other people went to identify the body.
